Help Our Young Photographers Earn Their Wings

School.

Flight School is our year-round photography program designed to keep students learning, practicing, and progressing throughout the year.

As students demonstrate essential photography skills, they can earn six Flight School achievement bands:

  • Aperture Ace

  • Shutter Maverick

  • Leading Line Pilot

  • Rule of Thirds Wingman

  • Symmetry Commander

  • Negative Space Navigator

After earning all six skill bands, students qualify for the Sharp Shooter Top Shot Challenge, where they submit one of their strongest photographs for evaluation using a youth-friendly approach based on professional image-making principles.

These bands are more than awards.

Each one represents a skill learned, a goal reached, and another step forward in a young photographer's journey.

Through Their Lens: Caddo Lake 2027

Help Send Young Photographers to Caddo Lake

For many young people, an experience like this would not be possible without community support.

Sharp Shooter Foto plans to take six young photographers, ages 9–17, to the Caddo Lake Photography Summer Camp in June 2027.

Surrounded by towering cypress trees, waterways, birds, wildlife, and one of the most unique natural environments in Texas, students will have the opportunity to put their photography skills into practice during a real field experience.

During the trip, students will work on:

  • Camera settings and exposure

  • Wildlife and nature photography

  • Composition

  • Visual storytelling

  • Photographing from the water

  • Observation and patience

  • Image selection and organization

  • Curating their strongest photographs

Donations toward this program help support expenses such as transportation, lodging, meals, boat rentals, photography instruction, mentoring, and other program-related costs.

But this experience is about much more than making photographs.

It is an opportunity for young people to explore somewhere new, develop independence, build confidence, practice creative problem-solving, and experience nature in a way they may remember for the rest of their lives.
